Micro Tales #24
MY VISIT TO THE ORPHANAGE
With this opportunity, I would like to talk about my visit to the orphanage. I still remember my first visit to an orphanage on my birthday (5 years back). A few of my friends had collected a few books and some groceries from the amount saved by cancelling my Birthday celebration! It was one of the most memorable days in my life.
We stayed with those beautiful kids for a very long time - more than what was planned. On that day, we decided to contribute something towards the needy part of society. Since then, I have been going to orphanages and being in touch with them regularly. During my next visit (which was a full day planned activity), I observed that the children are burdened with some deep inner feeling which was not exactly sorrow. They didn’t open to us immediately. They were not feeling comfortable to speak and enjoy freely with us. We indulged them in various activities which they liked and got much chance to enjoy. For instance, watching funny and educational videos on a projector. We danced on some random DJ songs. We ate some spicy junk food (because they didn’t like sweets much). We played various games and outdoor sports. Since it was a second visit, we had formed a bond with those kids in the orphanage.
I realized that we all have a lot to learn from them. Firstly, every individual has some tragic story through which they have come. When I listened to their stories, It felt like my heart was tearing apart. In my visits, I had a deep sympathy for those children. But when I visited the next time, my sympathy turned into a strong bond of care and affection.
Every time I have gone to visit those kids, I have learnt something new pertaining to life. The moments spent with them have been some of my happiest ones for they are a really good company!
