Life is more meaningful if you live not only for yourself, but if you help others. Nevertheless, people sometimes forget about others and selfishly pursue only their own interests, while helping poor people is one of the best things everyone can do. Poor people are an integral part of our society and everyone should not turn a blind eye towards them, but think over what they can do in order to help. Since I was a child, my mother and teachers at school have always tried to encourage me to help poor people by giving them old toys and clothes which I would not use anymore. I was also told that it was nice to give poor people food when possible. If everyone tried to do at least one small thing from his or her side in order to help poor people, there would be much less inequality in the world. I would like to share my personal experience. I am a member of a Rotaract Club, a club that focuses on social work amongst other things. So when I did my first event, which was the food donation drive, I donated for the first time and it felt really amazing. Their happy faces and blessings made me smile. Since my childhood, whenever I used to see a poor child or an elderly person begging for money or sleeping curled up on roads I would promise to myself that when I was older and would have the means, I would help those people in whatever way I could. That drive was the day when I finally began that mission. The notion of charity being something that we should take pride in is foriegn in my family, I have always been told that it is one of our responsibilities to help these people. Moreover, I would recommend everyone to participate in such work or activities because I believe that helping poor people is one of the best gifts a person can give others.
