A 10-year-Old Daughter: An Inspiration for Everyone

A 10-year-Old Daughter: An Inspiration for Everyone

Veeraswamy Venkatesan, a proud father having a government job from Sullurupeta, Andhra Pradesh found inspiration from his daughter, Geethika Venkatesan, and started an NGO- Yadhumadi. When asked about why he wanted to contribute, he surprisingly said that he is just a volunteer and he was persuaded and led by his daughter, explaining how she is the founder of the NGO and organizes everything.

After reading about Global Warming, she asked her father about why he doesn’t plant more trees or why so many lands are barren, or why there is water scarcity, surprising her father with maturity at such a young age. Those thoughts stayed inside her and led into something special. Starting with just 7 members and led by Geethika, the NGO just completed their maiden year.

Whether it is conducting seminars, interacting with farmers, distributing food, planting trees, she has contributed more to society than most people ever do. Balancing all this with school, she is an excellent student who excels in studies. Not wasting a single minute, the 10-year-old girl has inspired many people through her actions. She aspires to become an Astronaut, driving inspiration from Kalpana Chawla but has promised to always keep working for the betterment of rural people.

With the emphasis of the NGO on the slogan- ‘Bring Back Agriculture’, Veeraswamy explains why it is important for the agricultural sector to grow. Citing India’s huge population, he explains how urban aspirations and dreams have clouded India’s most neglected, yet the most populated sector, adding that even farmers want to get urban jobs, giving an example of civil construction work. Instead, the emphasis must be on spreading awareness amongst farmers, extensive plantations, technological advancements in farming, etc. Planting over 25 thousand trees in the past year, and conducting seminars in various villages, the NGO has blossomed and inspired hundreds of farmers. Even during the COVID-19 pandemic, his daughter distributed 15-20kgs of food to poor farmers and migrating people on a daily basis

Despite inspiring many, the NGO is funded solely by Veeraswamy, who elaborates on how the money can come and go, but the change will be there forever, about how inspiring the farmers is much more valuable than money. Whether its buying seeds or fertilizers for farmers or organizing events, he has contributed from his pocket even though he came from a poor family. He feels this is a small sacrifice in making his daughter’s dream a reality.

He continued stating how social media is the best platform for rethinking and innovations. About how he got encouragement from people of various countries like America, Australia, Poland, and the Philippines. He cites how an animal group activist from Australia supported encouraged him. He feels hopeful and trusts the youth in bringing significant change and aims to do the same. He hopes his daughter will inspire the coming generation.

In the coming years, he hopes that more people will join the cause, whether financially or morally. Thinking differently and the need for agriculture must be highlighted. He concludes by citing the recent news- Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Google announced that Google invested more than 33 thousand crores to digitally transform India, and how even a fraction of that money could uplift the rural farmers. He hopes to inspire people to think differently, and his daughter has paved the way.
